AMA tackles fraud

The Accident Management Association (AMA) is setting up a new industry-wide register to tackle fraud.

The AMAs Fraud Prevention Working Party are establishing a high risk claim register for members. It will provide them with alerts of new types of fraud/attempted fraud and contain a user group to share fraud intelligence and new trends, an a register of high risk claimants and key details. Information will be available and updated through AMA members' website with fraud alerts by email and on the website. As a next stage, the AMA is considering a real time database of all credit hire claims so that new claims can be checked against the database at the time they are received and appropriate action taken.

Tony Baker, Director General, AMA, explained:

"We have identified a significant increase in attempts to defraud the industry.

"Bogus claimants are looking for vulnerable credit hire companies in attempts to steal hire vehicles, put forward multiple claims and legitimise personal injury claims. The AMA is putting in significant resources to assist members to detect and prevent such fraudsters."
