A more unusual hypnotist act

A hypnotist patient used self-hypnosis to avoid being anaesthetised.

Consultant orthopaedic surgeon, David Llewellyn-Clark at Worthing Hospital agreed to allow Mr Alex Lenkei, a registered hypnotist, to use self hypnosis whilst doctors carried out an operation on his right hand, and an anaesthetist was available to administer an anaesthetic if necessary.
The operation, which involved removing some bone in the base of the thumb and fusing some joints took over 80 minutes. The outcome should improve Mr Lenkei’s arthritis and give him more mobility.

David Llewellyn-Clark said:
“Some people are very anxious about being given an anaesthetic so I am always looking to find alternatives. I was confident that Mr Lenkei is a skilled hypnotist and I am delighted all went well.”
