£2.4m settlement for brain damaged girl

A girl who suffered brain damage after her premature birth received a £2.4m High Court settlement.

Olivia Bull was born prematurely at Watford General Hospital in 2002. There were reports that a problem with ventilator settings caused her brain damage but the hospital has confirmed that this is not true.

The case was heard before Mr Justice Henriques. West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust admitted liability and a lump sum of £2.4m will be paid plus lifelong periodical payments.

A West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust spokesperson said:

"The Trust did make a timely admission of liability and, from the point of view of the Trust, the legal case was dealt with amicably and the Trust hopes that the family feel that way as well, notwithstanding the circumstances that they have had to come to terms with."
