£24m for army rehabilitation

Defence Secretary Des Brown announced £24m of funding for a specialist army rehabilitation facility.

Headley Court will receive funding after a defence rehabilitation services review. During a visit to the specialist rehabilitation facility in Surrey, Defence Secretary Des Browne announced that the government would provide funding for ward and accommodation updates. Improvements will include a new accommodation block, bigger prosthetic limb workshop and a permanent replacement to a temporary ward. The funding will be provided over the next four years.

Des Browne said:

"Headley Court is globally renowned for delivering first-class rehabilitation treatment to troops with complex physical and mental injuries. I want to ensure that reputation is retained and that is why I have announced £24m of additional investment in the future of Headley Court.

"I would also like to pay tribute today to the remarkable charitable work conducted to honour the bravery and professionalism of our Armed Forces. The excellent contributions of charities like SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) and Help for Heroes, is also going to raise more money for Headley Court."
